چکیده

Spirulina (Spirulina platensis (Gomont) Geitler 1925) is a cyanobacteria used as an ecologically sound, nutrient-rich dietary supplement. These microalgae have the capability to produce least-cost protein per unit area compared livestock and are therefore being investigated address malnutrition food security. Apart from variety of components, such animal feed, fertilizer, cosmetics, produced Spirulina, phytoremediation wastewater using economically viable environmentally sound tactic. A study was carried out with objectives quick removal waste selected wastewaters by agro-based industries identification suitable organic wastes costless media for growing S. its powder production. Wastewater fishponds poultry units, grain-soaked water, parboiled rice liquid were treatments inoculated stock cultures platensis. Treatments replicated three times along Zarrouk’s medium standard control arranged in randomized complete block design. The chemical parameters wastes, OD value, pH, EC (mS/cm), growth measured UH5300-Spectrophotometer wavelength 560 nm at two-day intervals. derived data analyzed SAS 9.4, significance results among determined according Duncan’s multiple range test, p < 0.05. showed that growth, harvestable density 0.8 very low concentration (25%) 7 days medium. maximum significant value 1.313 observed on day 15 non-significant other For fishpond wastewater, 0.567 obtained 15. pH declined 9.28 7.5 after days. values not significant. Among media, promotes better than locally available tested. This experiment concludes industries’ can be bio-remediated nutrient-enriched mass culture without nutrient supplements.

Alginate immobilization of Spirulina platensis for wastewater treatment.

Immobilization of cyanobacterium Spirulina platensis in sodium alginate (1.5 %) gave the best quality of bead and 15-16 beads were formed per mL of aqueous solution of alginate. The immobilized cells were used in a batch process for treatment of diluted sewage. After 8 days, 95 % of BOD5, 77 % of COD, 90 % of ammonia, and 94 % of TSS were removed.

OPTIMIZATION OF BIOMASS PRODUCTION OF Spirulina platensis IN SEAWATER MEDIUM

Spirulina platensis is one of the most potential sources of natural nutrition. The present study was aimed to optimize the parameters like nitrogen sources, pH, temperature and light intensity for increasing the production of Spirulina platensis biomass (dry weight), protein, lipid and chlorophyll-a in seawater medium. The production of Spirulina platensis was optimized in terms of biomass and ...

Role of pH on antioxidants production by Spirulina (Arthrospira) platensis

Algae can tolerate a broad range of growing conditions but extreme conditions may lead to the generation of highly dangerous reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may cause the deterioration of cell metabolism and damage cellular components. The antioxidants produced by algae alleviate the harmful effects of ROS. While the enhancement of antioxidant production in blue green algae under stress ha...

Bioethanol Production by Carbohydrate-Enriched Biomass of Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis

In the present study the potential of bioethanol production using carbohydrate-enriched biomass of the cyanobacterium Arthrospira platensis was studied. For the saccharification of the carbohydrate-enriched biomass, four acids (H2SO4, HNO3, HCl and H3PO4) were investigated. Each acid were used at four concentrations, 2.5 N, 1 N, 0.5 N and 0.25 N, and for each acid concentration the saccharifica...
